Soil contamination by brominated flame retardants in open waste dumping sites in Asian developing countries

In Asian developing countries, large amounts of municipal wastes are dumped into open dumping sites each day without adequate management. This practice may cause several adverse environmental conse-quences and increase health risks to local communities. These dumping sites are contaminated with many chemicals including brominated flame retardants (BFRs) such as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs). BFRs may be released into the environment through production processes and through the disposal of plastics and electronic wastes that contain them. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the status of BFR pollution in municipal waste dumping sites in Asian developing countries. Soil samples were collected from six open waste dumping sites and five reference sites in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam from 1999 to 2007. The results sug-gest that PBDEs are the dominant contaminants in the dumping sites in Asian developing countries, whereas HBCD contamination remains low. Concentrations of PBDEs and HBCDs ranged from ND to 180lg/kg dry wt and ND to 1.4lg/kg dry wt, respectively, in the reference sites and from 0.20 to 430lg/kg dry wt and ND to 2.5lg/kg dry wt, respectively, in the dumping sites. Contamination levels of PBDEs in Asian municipal dumping sites were comparable with those reported from electronic waste dismantling areas in Pearl River delta, China

Dự báo nghiệp vụ ngư trường khai thác cá ngừ đại dương trên vùng biển Việt Nam năm 2015-2016

Đoàn Bộ Thừa nhận nguyên lý tự nhiên giữa ngư trường (được đặc trưng bởi năng suất đánh bắt CPUE - Catch Per Unit Effort) và các yếu tố môi trường biển có tồn tại mối quan hệ, đã sử dụng phương pháp phân tích tương quan nhiều biến để tìm ra phuơng trình hồi quy sử dụng làm phương trình dự báo. Theo đó, một quy trình đa năng đã được xây dựng để thực hiện các dự báo ngư trường cho nghề (và đối tượng cá khai thác) tùy chọn, hạn dự báo và kích thước ô lưới tùy chọn. Quy trình đã và đang được triển khai trong năm 2015-2016 để thiết lập các dự báo nghiệp vụ hạn tháng và hạn 7-10 ngày ngư trường nghề câu cá ngừ đại dương trên vùng biển xa bờ (6-18oN, 109-117oE). Các bản đồ (và bản tin) dự báo ngư trường đã được Tổng cục Thủy sản và Viện Nghiên cứu Hải Sản thẩm định, cho phép phát báo thường xuyên trên các website của ngành và các địa phương, phát báo hàng ngày trên Đài Thông tin duyên hải và trên các Bản tin dự báo thời tiết nông vụ của VTV1, Bản tin dự b

Vinamilk’s Supply Chain and the Small Farmers’ Involvement

Luc, Thi Thu Huong Supply chain management is the critical success factor in the food processing industries in general and in dairy firms in particular. This article tries to analyze the current state of the supply chain of Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk), the leading player in the country’s dairy industry. Along with the supply chain’s description and analysis, this article also illustrates the challenges of fresh milk procurement activities for the multiple small farmers in the country. The article ends up with some solutions for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Vinamilk’s supply chain as well as for the higher participation and benefits for the small farmers.
